Today for our virtues lesson we read the book, The Table Where the Rich People Sit. We talked about what is truly important to us. It is not the things, but the people that surround us and the experiences we have. This was a good reminder during this time of year. I am truly grateful for the smiles and joy my students share with me each day. I love cuddles with husband and dog, Moose. I am very grateful our baby girl is healthy. Her little kicks makes me smile everyday :) Enjoy the extra time you have with your family during Winter Break. I look forward to hearing about your expriences and making new ones in the New Year!

There is also the Steelhead. This salmon species is different because it can live after spawning.
Click on the website below and learn more about each individual species. You can click on the status map to see where each species typically migrates. Which species do you think travels the farest from it's home stream?

Feel free to share any interesting facts you learned or connections you made.

Time Elapsed Water Drop
Water is dropped in slow motion (2000 frames per second). Listen to why a drop of water can bounce as explained by a mathematician. This happens everytime it rains!
Why does water bounce? "There is a thin layer of air separating the drop from the water, but as the air is pushed aside most of the drop connects with the water below. But this happens so fast the connection is actually pinched off and a smaller droplet is formed."
Why do some of the drops leap up into the air? "When it coalesces, waves are generated at the point of contact and they sweep upwards and apply a force which lifts the drop off the surface."

Thinking Deeply While Reading
To help us focus on thinking deeply while we read, we are marking our thinking with color coded sticky notes for each reading strategy. Students write the name of the reading strategy they used on the sticky and make a note of their thinking while reading. The note then gets put on the page so students can use it to discuss with peers and one-on-one conferences.
